Prof. Catherine Mc Gonagle Head of School: Ms Catherine Mc Gonagle
Reception: Anne Burke /Sylvie Byrne

Welcome to the School of Nursing at Dublin City University. We are a university-based School of Nursing, providing nursing and multi-disciplinary educational programmes in partnership with a number of health boards, voluntary and private sector organisations. Through our multidisciplinary staff, the School of Nursing has direct expertise in general, mental health and intellectual disability nursing, as well as the biological sciences, psychology and sociology.

This is a very exciting time in the development of nursing practice, research and education in Ireland. The School of Nursing is at the forefront of these developments. We have thriving research and taught post-graduate courses and our new BSc (Hons) Nursing Programme commenced in September 2002. We also have a very active research portfolio and currently lead the first 5-year programme of research in Nursing and Midwifery ever funded in Ireland.

Rapid and often unpredictable change continues to be characteristic of health care provision. Key issues for health care practitioners include technological innovation, complex ethical and legal challenges, new policy initiatives and increased public and professional expectations. These challenges combine to make this one of the most demanding and challenging times in health care. The School of Nursing aims to assist students and health care professionals to meet these challenges through the courses and services it provides.
