Jim Dowling

Mr Jim Dowling was born in Dublin and received a BE(Hons) degree in electrical engineering from UCD in 1972, a Graduate Diploma in Management (TCD) in 1977and is a Chartered Engineer.

He spent 10 years working in various industries ranging from a large multinational (ICI Ltd) to a small indigenous electronic instrumentation company.

In 1983 he joined the School of Electronic Engineering, Dublin City University (formerly NIHE Dublin) as a Lecturer, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1996. From 2001 to 2007 he served as Head of the School of Electronic Engineering.

He was the director of the DCU PEI Technologies Centre for 12 years: this centre was funded under a government-sponsored advanced technology development scheme. His main interests are in analogue, power electronic and instrumentation systems and sustainable energy.

From 2008 until recently he served as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at DC. He now holds the position of Deputy President of DCU.
