Degree Information:
The M.Sc. in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy is offered by the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies at Turning Point in partnership with the School of Nursing.
The programme's philosophy embraces a particular attitude towards the practice of psychotherapy, one that affirms the importance of a unifying approach to mankind. Thus a major focus is on responding appropriately and effectively to a person at the emotional, spiritual, cognitive-behavioural and physiological levels. The theoretical orientations are principally those of Carl Rogers (client centred) and Roberto Assagioli (Psychosynthesis), woven together to form an integrated approach. The Graduate Diploma/M.Sc. programme leads to individual accreditation of students by the Irish Council of Psychotherapy (Humanistic and Integrative Section) and The Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, the relevant bodies for professional accreditation of counsellors and psychotherapists in Ireland. The course has been recognised by the European Association of Integrative Psychotherapy (EAIP) as having reached their training standards.
Aims and Objectives:
- To develop the student's portfolio of interpersonal, analytical and clinical skills.
- To build upon your existing knowledge and competencies, exploring, critically appraising and developing your counselling and psychotherapy practice. To allow you to pursue research-focused and practice-relevant education, supported through clinical supervision.
- To conduct research relevant to counselling/psychotherapy practice at M.Sc. level.
Programme Structure:
The course is delivered on a part-time basis. Twelve modules are taken over the first three years with the option to exit with a Graduate Diploma. A 30 credit Research Dissertation and research training module may be undertaken in the fourth year, which leads to the award of M.Sc. in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Career Prospects:
The knowledge and experience you have gained will allow you to work in independent practice and as part of a team in healthcare practices, hospitals, health boards and voluntary organisations.
Entry Requirements:
Prospective students will hold either an undergraduate degree award or provide satisfactory evidence of equivalent academic credits. Students who do not possess a primary degree may gain entry to the programme through AP(E)L.
