Degree Information:

This M.Sc. is the leading graduate programme of its kind in Ireland. The MSc in Management (Business), is designed for people who do not have an undergraduate degree in management or business, but who would like to have a thorough preparation for a career in managing a business. It is a busy and intensive programme which runs for 11 ½ months from mid-September of each year to end-August of the following year.

People taking this programme typically wish to complement their undergraduate degree with a business qualification at masters level, or would like to convert from their original undergraduate discipline and gain business acumen at a masters-level, with a broad range of options to enter a career in general management. The programme is designed for non-business graduates and we do not assume any prior knowledge of the modules or topics covered.

The personal competencies as well as the knowledge, analytical and critical thinking skills that are developed on the programme are the foundation for further career development and continuous learning through-out the rest of the participants life.

Aims and Objectives:

Aims and Objectives

  • To understand the principles of business and management.
  • To gain insights into how organisations operate and how individuals behave within those organisations.
  • To acquire the analytical, conceptual and practical tools necessary for managerial decision-making.
  • To acquire applied knowledge through real work with assigned industry clients.
  • To engage in research and to produce an in-depth analysis and evaluation of a business issue.
  • To personally develop into a strong and confident business professional by leading and mentoring teams
  • To develop the range of skills necessary to operate successfully in a business environment, including analytical, technical, teamworking, presentation, report writing and communication skills.

Programme Structure:

The programme commences with a compulsory Immersion Week, which takes place from 17th September - 21st September (i.e. one week before the standard University commencement date).

This one year, full-time programme enables your learning through a combination of lectures, self-assessment exercises, seminars, workshops, and a wide range of practical assignments - often for real-world clients. A core design element of this masters programme is that you will be given many opportunities to test and apply your knowledge on industry projects. As well as undertaking industry-relevant projects, you can work in a group to complete a major practical project in lieu of an individual dissertation. Projects are sourced from DCU's research centres, corporate clients, or may be based on students' own insights and ideas. The required dissertation or group practicum must be submitted by the end of July.

The M.Sc. in Management (Business) is part of DCU Business School's Next Generation Management initiative This starts with a pre-semester, week-long immersion course to provide students with the opportunity to develop the competencies required for successful management careers.
