MA in Comparative Literature
Examines issues in comparative literature and related disciplines and is designed for graduates wishing to continue and combine their knowledge of language, culture, literature and the arts. It is offered in full-time, part-time and modular (over 4 years) modes.
Graduate Diploma/MA in Intercultural Studies
The Graduate Diploma/MA in Intercultural Studies, either a full-time (one year) or part-time (two years) taught programme, examines a range of issues relating to the areas of cultural difference and communication across cultures, including the relationship between language and cultural identity, globalisation and internationalisation, moral and ethical dimensions of cultural conflict and cross-cultural communication.
Graduate Diploma/MA in Translation Studies
This one-year, full-time, taught programme aims to provide advanced training and a postgraduate qualification in Translation Studies. Students on this programme develop a range of professional and linguistic skills appropriate to the translation profession. Students may take one or two of the following languages: French, Spanish, German, Irish, and Japanese. With the exception of the Irish option, most translation is into English.
Graduate Diploma in Applied Language and Intercultural Studies
A modular programme which can be taken in full-time, part-time or modules mode (over 4 years) and is aimed at languages graduates who wish to explore opportunities in Translation Studies, Intercultural Studies, Language Studies (including Japanese) and Comparative Literature.
Graduate Certificate in Community Interpreting
A one semester part-time course which is also available in modular mode. This course is designed to train interpreters to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, garda stations and the lower courts. It is aimed at people currently working as interpreters as well as people interested in working in this area. To date we have trained interpreters in French, Russian, Spanish and Polish. We are now particularly interested in candidates with Romanian, Russian and French although we will also consider applications for other languages. This is the only accredited community interpreting course in Ireland.
