Description
The purpose of this module is to develop a good understanding of practical applications of advanced immunological techniques. In this module students will gain a working knowledge of some of the methods used in advanced analysis with particular focus on immunoassay's.

Learning Outcomes
1. Describe the principles of immune analysis and discuss the applications, advantages and limitations of these techniques.
2. Prepare and characterise monoclonal antibodies from serum.
3. Perform a range of immunological techniques such as ELISA and LFIA.
4. Set up an experiment to immobilise a ligand on a Biacore sensor chip and monitor binding to its cognate analyte in real time.
5. Discuss the fundamentals of humoral and cellular immunity and the basis of vaccination.
6. Develop an cell based assay to monitor the efficacy of vaccination.
7. Translate immunological theory into a practical setting.
