Description
This purpose of this module is to enable students to communicate effectively in business settings, to teach students effective presentation skills and to prepare students for the workplace, and in particular INTRA.

Learning Outcomes
1. An understanding of what is required for, and the barriers to, good communication.
2. An understanding of the importance of grammar and clear writing in written reports
3. An ability to write a short business e-mails & business letter
4. An understanding of the structure of reports, and report writing style
5. An ability to design and write good presentation slides
6. An ability to make good presentations to small audiences
7. An understanding of communication in working teams
8. An understanding of workplace relationships, and the students role during INTRA
9. An appreciation of the skills and knowledge to be acquired during INTRA
10. An understanding of how to study IT service management during INTRA

The types of communication; verbal & nonverbal communication. Who are the listeners/readers? Good listening. Small group communication. Asking questions and offering criticism; dealing with criticism. Communication in multicultural settings. The difference between the written and spoken word; grammar. Writing business e-mails & memos; e-mail etiquette. Documentation. The structure of reports. Report writing. How to deliver a presentation. Presentation techniques. Writing effective presentation slides. Overcoming nervousness. Communicating technical material to a non-technical audience. Teamwork & leadership; diversity; avoiding group think. Workplace relationships. Dealing with difficulties. Networking. The purpose of INTRA. The student as apprentice and as employee. What the student should aim to get from INTRA, and how best to do so.
