Description
This module will introduce basic information systems concepts about the components and the operations, managerialand strategic roles of information systems. In addition it will discuss major concepts, developments and managerialimplications involved in computer hardware, software, telecommunications and database management technologies.It will explore how internet, intranets, extranets and other information technologies are used are used in moderninformation systems to support electronic commerce, enterprise collaboration, business operations, managerialdecision making and strategic advantage. It will also address the challenges of managing information systemstechnologies, resources and strategies, including global IT management, strategic IS planning and implementation,security and ethical challenges.

Learning Outcomes
1. Explain how competitive advantage may be achieved through the introduction of large IT Systems.
2. Analyse problems experienced by real-world companies and address these problems through the introduction of appropriate IT systems.
3. Identify the benefits of Decision Support systems.
4. Choose appropriate data software systems for specified problems.
5. Apply design methods for systems development
6. Know when to build or buy software applications.
7. Know when to allocate development projects to IT and non-IT staff within an organisation
8. Demonstrate their ability to combine taught concepts with real-world issues in the form of a workshop (be able to express their ideas).
