Description
This module builds on knowledge and understanding mastered in a basic photojournalism module, DCU's CM276 or its equivalent, and adds complexity and depth of understanding in camera technique, in skills of image selection and editing, and in an exploration of professional practice at the highest ethical and technical standards.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate fluency and competence in the taking of professional quality photographs using manual settings on a digital 35mm camera
2. Use single, on-camera flash, and multiple flash effectively
3. Complete journalistic photo assignments involving multi-image slide shows, complete with narrative and sound.
4. Put contemporary photojournalism into an historical context, both within Ireland and in a broader community
5. Write appropriate captions for news and newsfeature photographs, which stand alone or which accompany a written story. Demonstrate working understanding of the differences and similarities in the forms.
6. Work with effectively the legal and ethical obligations and limitations on the practicing phtotojournalist
7. Conceptualize, shoot, edit and produce complete journalistic photostory
8. Demostrate key concepts in image selection and editing.
9. Produce multi-media journalism stories

The class will have weekly news assignments, involving shooting, editing and producing captions for increasingly challenging photo assignments. This will culminate in a multi-media final photo story,.
