Description
The purpose of this module is to enable students to finetune their journalistic skills and knowledge in preparation for their careers. This is achieved by completing a range of journalism assignments under the direct supervision of an academic advisor. These items will form the basis of thier portfolios. The module offers a solid platform from which learners can launch themselves into INTRA and their initial positions in the media. Due to the nature of the module, its footprint covers two semesters and circa 30 weeks.Students will participate in the following learning activities: Seminars structured to meet the particular needs of groups of learners working in specific media sectors; Presentations in which learners will outline how they intend to work on various types of markings. They will subsequently receive advice from their colleagues and academic advisor on the appropriateness of their strategies and, indeed, on the quality of thier finished news packages.

Learning Outcomes
1. Present a preliminary journalism portfolio containing a varied sample of work.
2. Produce an extended critical commentary on their portfolio work and the learning derived from it.
3. Share insights into journalism practice arising from the work invested in generating the portfolio content.
4. Develop working relationships with media executives in news organisations and other potential employers.
5. Assess the likelihood of gaining employment in the news business.
6. Reevaluate career options in light of the experience gained during portfolio assembly.
