Description
The aim of the module is to introduce the students to the necessary technical and creative skills required to produce original video material for multimedia use.

Learning Outcomes
1. Working in a small team be able to originate and prepare a digital documentary or multimedia related video proposal.
2. Organise, develop and produce a short five to seven minute video project on an agreed topic.
3. Compile the project into a logically edited sequence of events.

Planning your project, research, brainstorming, developing a proposal, technical requirements and crew selection..

Introduction to High Definition (HD) Camerawork..
The Sony XDCAM HD (High-Definition) camcorder. Technical operations; handling; focusing; audio adjustments; handheld vs. tripod use; monitoring audio levels; adjusting white balance. Digitisation of footage/data to Final Cut Pro..

The small team environment - multi-skilling, roles and responsibilities..
Students will self-select their production groups and be required to originate and develop a number of project proposals, which they will research and evaluate..

Project proposal.
Teams will have selected a sub-group of topics for discussion and consultation with their supervisor. Following this session, students will select their final project for development..

Project development.
Carrying out a `recce.' - technical considerations, meeting people, organizing permissions; planning a shot list; scheduling the project..

Production.
Project management, audio, lighting and camera considerations. Teams now start the production process and keep a log of their progress for later inclusion in their reports..

Post-production.
Students involve themselves in the post-production process, creating a logical flow to their sequences of recorded material. Digitization, logging, editing considerations, adding narration, music, graphics and/or motion graphics, exporting and output for DVD and the web..

Assignment 1.
Project proposal (formative evaluation).

Assignment 2.
DV documentary or other agreed video project (summative evaluation).
