Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Content:.
In keeping with the student-centred learning and learning-by-doing philosophy underpinning the M.Sc Multimedia programme, students will create and produce a multimedia product or service. This project will be completed at an agreed date usually at the end of August. This Major Project accounts for over one-quarter of the overall assessment; the equivalent of 20 credits from a total of 75. Students will self-select team members for the Major Project. The resulting groups will consist of 5 teams of 5 members or equivalent. Students will present their team Project/Title proposals in Semester2/ week 10-12 to the Project Advisory Panel (consisting of full-time members of staff). The presentations will take place in the Project Design module (CM567). The Panel will seek to adopt an inclusive approach to team proposals, subject to the qualifications that:i) The type/form of project proposed can be adequately supervised and assessed by the existing portfolio of School expertise.ii) The project is consistent with the available range of software, technical and other necessary resources.iii) The programme's general orientation/requirement for team-based projects is respected.iv) The project is consistent with the Programme's core values of creativity and originality in multimedia content and design.v) The project scope/length is realisable within the time period allocated.A written log will accompany the final production. This document serves as a record of the definition, intention, research background and evolution of the Major Project. It is to be delivered at the same time as the Major Project. The log's primary purpose is to assist in the evaluation and assessment of the major project/thesis by the internal and external evaluators. This log will also assist future participants in the programme in the methodology of developing a major multimedia project. Evaluation:The following guidelines are used in the evaluation of Major projects:1) The overall creativity and innovative features of the project's conceptualisation and design. 2) The technical implementation of the digital contentproject. Including the effective utilisation/adoption of appropriate technical facilities, tools and applications as well as the creative combination/mix of relevant media forms/components.3) The coherence and effectiveness of the multimedia project's textual strategies, design and form, especially with respect to the communication of its core message/content as well as its orientation towards the target audience and uses/users or 'market' (or niche).4) The manner/extent to which the project's construction and implementation is informed by due regard to professional publishing practices, legal considerations (e.g. copyright), user demand/consumption trends and/or marketing strategies relevant to such digital media content products/services.5) The manner and extent to which students utilise, extend and further develop the core technical and other competencies introduced in the taught modules on this programme..
