Description
To give students' further laboratory skills and practice especially in the synthesis of organic compounds. To reinforce the students' knowledge of reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry.

Learning Outcomes
1. Design reasonable synthetic pathways.
2. Apply advanced spectroscopic methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for the structural identification of reaction products.
3. Use powerful purification methods such as flash column chromatography, vacuum distillation and high performance liquid chromatography.
4. Apply small scale or "micro scale" reactions thus reducing the volume of reagents and waste generated.
