This module focusses on a discussion of the key issues in science education as identified nationally and internationally.

Learning Outcomes
1. Extract relevant arguments from research papers
2. Identify, select and critique appropriate research papers on selected topics
3. Discuss, informed by literature, the main issues in science education in Ireland as they affect classroom practice
4. Review critically major national and international reports on science education

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Raising and discussion of local, national and internationl issues in teaching and learning of science in school.
Discussion of above in the light of recent reports such as Rocard Report, ROSE study, Nuffield Report.

Identification of selected topics for literature review.
How to carry out a literature review and where to find information.

Reliability of information from literature.
