Description

To develop an understanding of the structure, development, problems and potential of the Irish economy and the economic policies applied to these issues and with a particular reference to Ireland's membership of the EC.

Learning Outcomes

1. Discuss and analyse topical issues in relation to the Irish economy, such as the evolution of the public finances or the demographic outlook for Ireland.
2. Locate key sources of data, statistics and analysis on the Irish economy from official online sources such as the ESRI and CSO
3. Critique contemporary analysis of Ireland's economic performance
4. Identify key trends in Ireland's economic development, such as factors that contributed to growth
5. Discuss Irish economic policy, demonstrating awareness of trends in economic policy from the past as well as an ability to articulate present and future alternatives
