The purpose of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to undertake a comprehensive case study whereby they get to assess the treasury risks a company is exposed to; can develop policies to manage these risks; implement hedging strategies to comply with policies; devise a 5 year funding plan; and advise on accounting implications of treasury activities. Students will be split into groups of three or four and will be required to meet regularly to complete the case study. An interim report is required in mid March and a final report and oral presentation in early May. Marks are awarded to the group with each student in this group obtaining these marks. Students are expected to attend lectures, given by guest lectures who are industry experts, and participate in class discussions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Appraise the key treasury risks a large public limited company faces 2. Assess the potential impact of treasury risks on the company. 3. Devise a set of treasury policies and procedures that aim to manage these risks 4. Devise an optimal funding strategy for a company and advise on how to implement said strategy. 5. Classroom teaching for the module will consist of a series of seminars by practitioners/experts. Some of the seminars will be given by current treasury managers with the intention of providing students with an insight into the practical details involved in the establishment and the day-to-day operation of a treasury function. Other seminars will consist of presentations on current issues affecting the treasury environment (e.g. technology, changes in taxation and legal codes, EMU, ethics/code of practice). The course breakdown is as follows:. .. Introduction to treasury case study and requirements. Series of lectures on risk management & hedging strategies by industry experts. Interim report on risks in case study. Overview of treasury accounting requirements. Oral presentation to a panel of industry experts covering the treasury requirements.
