To increase oral fluency and confidence; to widen the students' structural and lexical choices in spoken situations; to enable the students to prepare and deliver short oral presentations as part of a team and to discuss their ideas; to enable the students to participate effectively in discussion; to promote group work in an intercultural setting as a transferable skill

Learning Outcomes
1. Employ appropriate verbal strategies in a conversation or discussion.
2. Offer an opinion using a reasonably wide range of vocabulary and structure.
3. Plan and deliver a short talk as part of a team.
4. Display a satisfactory level of pronunciation and intonation.
5. Use English in an intercultural setting.
6. Participate effectively in discussion

Indicative content.
A strong emphasis will be placed on the promotion of fluency and confidence in speaking in the course. The aim will be to maximise students' participation in discussion of chosen topics through the provision of a variety of pair work and group work activities. The course will include a consideration of presentation techniques for the production of a short talk as part of a group presentation and discussion..
