Description
The purpose of this module is to enable learners to design, develop and implement a virtual learning environment, which encompasses curriculum development within the theme of Education for Sustainable development. Learners will engage in a series of lectures, practicals and tutorials that will enable discussion and critical reflection on core cecepts with technology-enaled Education for Sustainable Development. In groups, learners will source key resources and design and develop their own Moodle course within theme of ESD. Individually, learners within each group will take responsibility for the design of learning activities for a key topic on the course. The practical session will focus on upskilling the learners primarily in the use of Moodle to create a virtual learning environment. Learners may also be requested to attend external seminars on key topics (such as Human Rights) where such seminars become available.

Learning Outcomes
1. Design a coherent course or programme, from aims and outcomes, to content, learning activities and assessment within the theme of Education for Sustainable development
2. Demonstrate the capacity to plan collaboratively in the curriculum field
3. Utilise ICT tools (such as Moodle) to implement an ESD-curriculum within an online context
4. Explain historical context, concepts of and challenges to Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Communities of Learners
5. Source and critically review online materials or resources within the theme of ESD
6. Integrate multimedia and communication elements, such as video clips, graphics, wikis, discussion threads and chatrooms within a web-based activity

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Theme 1.
Education for Sustainable Development:Historical context, concepts of and challenges to Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Communities of Learners - Agenda 21/ UNESCO Decade of Education for Sustainable Development/ Millenium Development Goals, Human Rights Education/ Development Education for example.

Theme 2.
Curriculum Development and Instructional Design: Overview of how to design a coherent course or programme, from aims and outcomes, to content, delivery and assessment within the theme of Education for Sustainable development. Focus on Kolb Learning Cycle..

Theme 3.
Moodle workshops - Utilise ICT tools (such as Moodle) to implement an ESD-curriculum within an online context. Practical workshops on using Moodle to create a module- creating a course outline, hyperlinking to documents, creating assessments, designing wikis, chatrooms etc.

Theme 4.
Resourcing materials on ESD - Authenticating and critiquing ESD-related Materials- Idenifying online video-clips that may be appropriate within theme of ESD --Exploring issues of ownership and copyright.

Theme 5.
MS Office workshop: General workshop aimed to upskill learners on using some of the following for example: Word/ Powerpoint/ Email.
