Description
INACTIVE - This module aims to:• provide students with skills to become independent learners• facilitate students in exploring the concept of reflective practice• encourage the development of interpersonal skills• develop critical evaluation skills• facilitate students to explore their own particular strengths as learners• allow students to explore the benefits of working collaboratively and in groups through theory and practice.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate and evaluate different approaches to learning (such as self-directed learning, collaborative learning, communities of learners)
2. Identify and review a range of tools to facilitate independent learning (such as time management/ stress management/ Individual Educational Plans)
3. Apply a range of methods to facilitate reflective practice
4. Relate a range of interpersonal skills to individual learning situations
5. Engage in team-based planning and presentation
6. Develop an Independent Educational Plan (IEP) which includes learning outcomes, tasks and milestones
7. Critically review their progress in implementing their IEP

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Personal Learning.
-Design of personal learning plans/ Individual Educational Plans (IEP)-Identification of and drawing up of learning goals-Prioritisation of these goals in relation to this module (ES125a)-Reflective Practice.

Time Management.
-Identifying key elements of time management-Keeping time logs-Drawing up and prioritising tasks-Setting realisable deadlines for tasks and goals.

Stress Management.
-Understanding theory of stress and stress management-Understanding responses to stress-Exploring our individual causes of and responses to stress-Devising ways to manage personal stress.

Creativity.
-Lateral Thinking – theory and practice-Creative problem solving-Multiple Intelligences-Mind mapping-Learning Strengths-Use of questions as a tool for learning.

Interpersonal Skills.
-Communication – Listening skills, non-verbal communication,-Facilitation styles and conflict resolution in learning environments-Critical evaluation and importance of the skill for learning and assignment writing-Reflective practice and Learning Logs-Peer evaluation.

Learning Strengths and Learning Styles.
-Exploring different learning preferences/styles-Identifying individual learning strengths and weaknesses-Develop strategies to greater and more enjoyable learning opportunities.

Group work.
-Theory of group work – Tuckman, Belblin-Focus on benefits of collaborative approaches to learning – emphasis on teamwork-Practical work in groups working toward team assignments.
