This module aims to prepare the student teacher for recent and future changes in mathematics and science curriculums. The module will focus on development of teacher transferrable skills including ICT, reflective practice, communication and critical evaluation through the teaching of active methodologies for STEM teaching with particular emphasis on Inquiry based approaches. In addition to a focus on pedagogical content knowledge student teachers will also be given the opportunity to gain experience in developing and participating in communities of practice with their colleagues with the aim of developing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning episodes for science and mathematics.

Learning Outcomes
1. Integrate teaching and learning methodologies into lesson and scheme planning
2. Critically examine existing teaching resources for science and mathematics
3. Develop teaching and learning episodes using active learning methodologies with particular focus on using an inquiry based approach
4. Implement and critically evaluate and reflect on developed teaching and learning episodes
5. Effectively incorporate ICT into their teaching episodes
6. Engage effectively in communities of practice to share, develop and support colleagues towards the promotion of best practice as prescribed by the values of the Teaching Council Codes of Professional Conduct for Teachers
