Delivered through a series of workshops, lectures and practical skills demonstrations, the module aims to introduce students to drama as an aesthetic art form and as an active teaching and learning methodology that can be applied in delivering a variety of subjects on the second level curriculum. This module aims to enable students to actively research and critically debate the role of Drama in Education in the Irish second level classroom, through a practical and theoretical exploration of Drama in Education techniques and conventions. Drawing on established modes of artistic practice in the field of Drama in Education, the emphasis will be on equipping students with the skills to create a positive learning environment conducive to creativity and receptive to the use of drama as a structured learning experience in a variety of subjects. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Integrate active teaching and learning methodologies into lesson planning 2. Plan lessons using drama as a teaching method 3. Design, deliver and critically reflect on a learning episode that utilizes Drama as the primary teaching methodology 4. Reflect on and critically evaluate the design and delivery of a learning episode conducted through drama 5. Demonstrate, critique and recommend drama conventions appropriate to their subject specialism 6. Critically analyse theories of key practitioners in the field of Drama in Education 7.
