Description
This module gives you the opportunity to write a short research dissertation, in French, on a subject of your own choice which relates to an aspect of French-speaking culture or society.

Learning Outcomes
1. Apply basic research methods relevant to the subject chosen.
2. Engage in advanced reading and analysis of secondary literature and documentary materials in a specialist area.
3. Structure a short thesis (6,500 words) in a logical and coherent manner.
4. Present a descriptive/analytic argument in French that meets basic standards of accuracy in French grammar and vocabulary, in both general and more spacialized registers.
5. Cite and reference in an appropriate way

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Production of research Project.
Under the supervision of the DCU Exchange Coordinator for French, students will produce a short thesis (6,500 words), written in French, on a subject which may be chosen from any aspect of French-speaking culture & society, history & politics, language & literature, media, film & the visual arts. The subject chosen may also include comparisons with other European societies. The project will be the outcome of independent research and reading. Consulting with their supervisor as required, students will choose their topic, develop a research methodology, collect and assess relevant materials, and read and analyse a broad range of sources. The thesis will present an argument which combines materials and analysis in a coherent structure, and is expressed in a manner and format in accordance with the norms of academic research..
