Description
This module sets the level A1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as the minimum exit level. The module aims to introduce students to the German language and to German culture. Over the course of the academic year it will provide students with key grammatical structures and appropriate vocabulary relating to a variety of topics and situations. Students are expected to attend lectures and engage actively in classroom activities.

Learning Outcomes
1. Construct and respond to basic questions in German.
2. Describe character and physical traits.
3. Express opinion about likes and dislikes.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of basic social conventions in the German-speaking countries.
5. Access basic German language information sources, including library and online materials.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of short and simple texts in German.
7. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with regard to events/ideas in both oral and written format.
