Description
This module sets the level B1-B1.1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as its minimum exit level. As an Intermediate German Language module, it aims to foster students’ interest in and curiosity for the language by raising language awareness and developing students’ competence in German through analysis of: the German Verb Phrase + the German Noun Phrase.The module’s focus on topical social, cultural and political themes exposes students to a variety of text-types, registers, media and viewpoints and consolidates productive, receptive, interactive and intercultural skills. The module builds learners' confidence in the accurate use of specific linguistic features and also assists learners in critical reflection, the effective setting of learning goals, planning of learning, learner autonomy and time management.

Learning Outcomes
1. Engage with a variety of text-types (both written and audio) dealing with social, cultural, political issues in contemporary Germany.
2. Interact with native-speakers and other students of German in the context of retrieving and exchanging information on specific topics and communicate effectively orally.
3. Produce cohesive texts (creative, factual, formal, informal etc.) and oral responses in German on relevant social, cultural, political themes with accurate use of the German verb and nouns phrases and theme-specific vocabulary.
4. Demonstrate (inter-)cultural awareness with regard to conventions and norms in the target culture(s).
5. Recognise, describe and explain the conventions of the German verb phrase and the German noun phrase.
6. Describe and appraise his/her language learning strategies, language awareness and degree of progression in the study of the German language.
