Description
This module sets the level B2.1 from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) as its minimum exit level.The aim of this competence based module is to enable students to acquire the language skills necessary to engage in academic activities and autonomous learning in the course of their year abroad. Topics will include business German, living and studying in Germany and Germany today as well as academic research and writing.

Learning Outcomes
1. Define and explain key business vocabulary in German.
2. Participate in a formal telephone conversation in German.
3. Analyse, respond to and produce short business letters in German.
4. Extract and reproduce the main ideas of short business-related texts in German.
5. Critically examine and comment on current business topics.

Text analysis.
Students will read specialised texts and extract information..

Group presentations.
Students will engage in a group project on an intercultural/economic/social topic and will present it to the class..

Independent reserach.
Students will research specific Germany-related topics independently and discuss their findings in class..

Organise knowledge and write up a report.
Students will compose a written summary of the work presented to class..

Film clips.
A variety of topic-centered film clips will be viewed in class or independently at home..

Online reserach.
We will look at a variety of websites relating to current affairs and studying in Germany..

Simulations.
A variety of situations that the students might encounter while studying in Germany will be simulated in class in order to heighten intercultural awareness..
