The purpose of this module is to examine the Irish industrial relations framework and to familiarise students with the development and role of Irish industrial relations institutions and their usefulness in maintaining a productive workplace environment. The course will also explore the various theoretical perspectives on industrial relations institutions and their role in society and workplaces.In this module students will work in groups to debate contemporary industrial relations issues and trends. Students will also submit individual reports to explore contemporary industrial relations issues. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. An understanding of the roles of trade unions and employers' associations. 2. An understanding of the various industrial relations institutions' ability to resolve an array of industrial disputes. 3. An appreciation of the contemporary issues facing industrial relations institutions. 4. An appreciation of the various viewpoints that are held about the activities and motivations of industrial relations stakeholders including trade unions and employers' associations. 5.
