The purpose of this module is to provide students with a broad understanding of the tools and techniques used in research so that they can successfully complete a management report on a self selected topic dealing with the general area of managing people in organisations. Students undertake a self-managed, analytical piece of work that provides an in-depth academic investigation of an appropriate people management issue within the business environment which is of interest to them. Students will develop knowledge in relation to the identification of research problems, the synthesis, critique and analysis of academic literature and the practical application of academic knowledge to the business environment. Additionally, students will develop skills such as communication and literacy, problem solving, independent working and learning and time management. Students are expected to attend lectures and tutorial sessions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Select a suitable topic for research in terms of theory and practice which can result in useful conclusions and recommendations that add to existing body of knowledge on that topic and have practical application. 2. Defend various research methods and approaches as being appropriate / inappropriate in dealing with particular research topics. 3. Generate their own perspectives on issues by linking and re-combining concepts, theories and information in new ways that will contribute to existing knowledge. 4. Communicate and present their ideas coherently in writing paying attention to clarity of argument and supporting evidence and the use of appropriate language, diagrams and tables. 5.
