Description
The module aims to equip participants with a knowledge and insight on the complex nature of leadership. Along with an understanding of the dominant leadership perspectives participants will apply leadership models to their healthcare context. Participant will also set personal leadership development goals which they will advance (with guidance) over the period of the programme.

Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss key concepts and controversies in leadership theory and research
2. Critique the key debates in Leadership Theory and Research.
3. Apply appropriate skill/competence set matched to context.
4. Self-evaluate their developmental needs, particularly in terms of leadership competencies and establish associated developmental goals to advance personal reflexivity
5. Apply leadership principles to emerging organisational situations
6. Demonstrate an open approach to development as a leader and an agent for change

Self Leadership.
Building Leadership awareness from self-assessment. The steps from self-awareness to self-regulation. Setting Leadership development goals and progressing these goals overtime.

The centrality of Context on Leading.
Understanding the influence of context on leading, enabling and blocking.Differentiating multilevel leadership approaches and tools – from self to team to department to organisational and beyond..

Becoming a Leader.
Applying leadership in context.
