More and more front line leaders are active at the delivery end of people management. The objective of this module is to give managers an understanding of the key theories thatunderpin the study of Human Resource Management, as well as an opportunity to analyse and evaluate the most recent developments in this field. This module introduces the human resource management function in contemporary organisations and examines the importance of the role of managers in the successful management of people. The module aims to explore the role of the HR function in contributing to organisational competitive advantage and examines the vital role of the manager in implementing these HR policies.

1. Discuss the nature and practice of human resource management
2. Explain the links between human resource management and organisational performance
3. Critically evaluate the various models, theories and approaches to managing human resources
4. Apply various models, theories and approaches to managing human resources in an organisational context
