Description
The purpose of this module is to examine and critically assess a number of key concepts and issues associated with behaviour in organizations. Specific Organizational Behaviour models, approaches and methodologies are addressed and the course provides frameworks and tools for introducing and sustaining organizational effectiveness. It focuses initially on aspects of personal and group behaviour and on issues of leadership, power, organizational change, structural change and corporate culture. The course is organized around readings, discussions, cases, lectures and multi-media material

Learning Outcomes
1. To discuss the nature and practice of organisational behaviour and its importance to organisational effectiveness
2. To critically evaluate the various organisational behaviour models, theories and approaches
3. Interpret organisational behaviour theory and research in an organisational context
4. Apply organisational behaviour theories, concepts and methods in an organisational context

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Approaches to motivation and individual behaviour.
This section examines the individual in the organization. The section starts by looking at the foundations of individual behaviour as demographic characteristics, attitudes, personality and values. The role of motivation, perception and decision-making in individual behaviour is also considered..

Group dynamics.
In this section basic group concepts are discussed, ways to make teams more effective are explored as well as topics such as communication, leadership, power and politics are investigated.

Organizational system.
This section explores how an organization's structure affects behaviour, how each organization has its own culture that acts to shape the behaviour of its members and the various organizational change and development techniques that managers can use to affect behaviour for the organization's benefit.
