Description
This module is designed: To acquire sufficient communicative skills to function adequately during a period in Japan. -To increase proficiency in pronunciation and intonation.-To expand the language skills acquired in Japanese Language 3.- To develop information-gathering techniques.- Consolidation of 550 basic characters acquired previously.- Acquisition of additional 200 characters.- To begin acquisition of formal register language and to develop letter -writing skills. To enable students to acquire language skills that allow them to engage in academic activities in the course of their year abroad in Japan.

Learning Outcomes
1. Acquire language skills to communicate in Japanese in everyday situations.
2. Show accuracy in pronunciation and pitch in spoken Japanese.
3. Recognise and reproduce 200 additional kanji (Japanese characters).
4. Read and comprehend non-specialist texts in Japanese.
5. Acquire ability to write essays on general social issues, and demonstrate ability to write simple formal letters.

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Preparation for study abroad.
Reflection on cultural differences and linguistic preparation for daily life, participation in University life and in a work environment..

Reading Skills.
A variety of texts on different topics from newspapers and magazines will be read, analyzed and discussed in a group setting. Consolidation of 550 basic characters acquired previously. Acquisition of additional 200 characters..

Listening Skills.
A variety of authentic conversations of more formal registers of spoken Japanese will be listened to, analyzed and repeated in class..

Writing Skills.
Students will write short texts, creative and more formal, on given topics and current affairs. To develop the range and active application of vocabulary, and to introduce more advanced grammatical structures. Consolidation of 550 basic characters acquired previously. Acquisition of additional 200 characters. To begin writing prose texts in more formal language registers and to begin writing letters according to Japanese social and business norms..
