Description
Year 3 of the IBLJ programme provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Japanese Language and Culture. Students attend Partner Universities in Japan for a full academic year. Modules can be drawn from the wide range of modules offered in partner universities in Japan and are selected within certain established criteria. Students take a least two business related module. Modules focussing on the Target Language are delivered and assessed through that language. Module choices and the student’s overall number of hours/ credits are approved by the Year Abroad Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate substantial progress in their use and understanding of the Japanese language and increased confidence as an advanced student of the language.
2. Recognise, explain and use effectively a broad variety of linguistic features in a range of different contexts.
3. Demonstrate an increased understanding of the culture; its history, literature and politics.
4. Demonstrate a complex understanding of business related issues in Japan.
5. Articulate responses to intercultural and linguistic issues as they relate to familiar cultures and the Japanese culture and ground these in both experience and theory.
