The module is designed to develop students' ability to translate semi-specialised Japanese texts by sensitising the students to various translation issues, including terminology, textual features of the source text and the purpose of the use of the translation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Translate semi-specialised texts at an advanced level from Japanese into English 2. Select suitable texts for background reading 3. Generate electronic glossaries using on-line resources 4. Write grammatically correct, natural English sentences, which are stylistically appropriate to the context of the text 5. Use of comparative texts. Students will be sensitised to the importance of the use of comparative target texts in relation to the source text to be translated.. Use of terminological resources. Students will learn how to locate and use various textual sources for key terminology.. Understanding of the purpose of translation. Students will learn the importance of the purpose (skopos) of translation in determining their translation strategies.. Textual analysis. Through translation assignments students will learn to apply a translation-oriented textual analysis.. Translating and Reviewing.
