Description
This module focuses on practical and theoretical issues involved in the delivery of subject content (e.g. Geography, Science, History) to learners for whom the language of instruction is a second or additional language, while simultaneously addressing the needs of those learners for whom the language of instruction is the first language. In light of recent migration trends, the need to differentiate in the classroom from the perspective of language has become an important issue for educators in all sectors.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an awareness of how language proficiency affects communication and comprehension of subject matter in the classroom
2. Identify and describe issues which arise in multilingual classrooms from the perspective of both learners and teachers
3. Demonstrate an understanding of how different theories and practical approaches can be applied to address these issues
4. Analyse and evaluate different practical approaches which can be applied in specific subjects and settings in order to enhance learning and teaching.
