Description
INACTIVE - The main aim of the module is to examine the impact and representation of wars and conflicts as key moments in changing cultural consciousness primarily through a reading of a number of significant literary texts. The module will provide an overview of the legacies and memories of conflicts and wars during teh XXth and XIXst centuries. This examination will serve as the basis for an exploration of the cultural response to war during the last century and also to provide a forum in which to examine and question our view of war and our attitudes to war in a world still dominated by intercultural conflict.

Learning Outcomes
1. Assess the impact of the WWI and WWII on world consciousness, as reflected in literature and film inspired by these Wars
2. Respond critically to the forces that have shaped the modern world and modern mind
3. Analyse the cultural responses to later wars, and in particular, for analysis and discussion of current intercultural conflict
4. Demonstrate an undertanding of the relationships existing between society at large and their literary and cultural productions
5. Construct a valid piece of argumentation regarding the socio-literary value of a literary or artistic artefact
