Description
The main aim of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive overview ofthe development of the field of intercultural studies, exploring the different research interests and approaches of the various disciplines involved. It will examine and compare various theories/models of intercultural communication in terms of their applicability to analysing real-life situations.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the different methodological approaches and theories /models used by various disciplines involved in the study of intercultural communication
2. Apply these as appropriate to their chosen field of research

Cultural variability studies (Hofstede, Trompenaars, Hall).
In-group/Out-Group and Inter-Group Anxiety theories (Gudykunst, Tajfel & Turner).

Cross-cultural adaptation theories (Oberg, Adler, Bennett, Kim, Anderson).
Cultural marginality theories (Bennett, Simmel, Stonequist etc.).

Facework / Identity negotiation theory (Goffman, Ting-Toomey).
