This module aims to discover how sexuality and gendered subjectivity are constructed in art, mainly fiction, film and theatre. We will explore how these narrative forms serve as technologies of gender, and how they work to establish and to subvert stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Differentiate between the different discourses of Sexuality Studies theory 2. Identify the continuities and discontinuities in the literary and artistic representations of gender and sexuality 3. Determine which Sexuality Studies Theoretical tools are relevant 4. Demonstrate his/her understanding of how a literary or artistic artefact adresses the sexuality studies related debates of the society it arises from 5. Integrate theoretical tools of relevance to his/her argumentation 6. Relate this understanding of the representation of gender and sexuality to broader intercultural issues, including the dialectic of particularity and universality 7. Spectacular Sexualities. This course will discuss different literary and filmic productions adressing or reflecting the current debates relating to the issue of sexuality studies and of gender studies.
