Description
The purpose of this module is to identify and analyse verbal representations of visual representations (existing or fictional) and to examine critically the close relation between literature (including the graphic novel), art, film and photography. Students are expected to attend lectures, contribute to seminars and to engage in online-learning activities on a regular basis.

Learning Outcomes
1. Gain insight into the history, theory and applications of the relationship between literature and the visual arts
2. Identify modes of representation adopted in artistic portrayals of writing and of the figure of the writer in the visual arts
3. Define and compare different kinds of ekphrases (actual, notional, digital, etc.)
4. Analyse and interpret adaptations of literary works on film
5. Distinguish various script-writing processes
6. Identify the specific nature of the cinenovel
7. Examine the role of illustrations of poems, fairy tales and plays by major poets and artists
8. Investigate the role of the graphic novel in the adaptation of classics worldwide
9. Discuss the role of the Livre d'artiste in the artistic development of writers
