Description
The purpose of this module is to identify and analyse verbal representations of visual representations (existing or fictional) and to examine critically the close relation between literature (including the graphic novel), art, film and photography. Students are expected to attend lectures, contribute to seminars and to engage in online-learning activities on a regular basis.

Learning Outcomes
1. Gain insight into the history, theory and applications of the relationship between literature and the visual arts (essentially ekphrasis and art criticism)
2. Identify modes of representation adopted in artistic portrayals of writing and of the figure of the writer in the visual arts
3. Examine the role of illustrations of poems, fairy tales and plays by major poets and artists
4. Distinguish script-writing process and cinécriture (or ciné-roman)
5. Analyse and interpret adaptations of literary works on film
6. Investigate the expansion of the graphic novel worldwide
