To develop an understanding of the foreign policy of the USA in the 21st century. To understand the United States' role in world affairs as a security actor and as a significant political force. To examine the United States role in the development and operation of international institutions.

Learning Outcomes
1. Describe and explain periods in US foreign policy
2. Evaluate whether the US has a foreign policy mission
3. Analyse specific theories linking domestic politics and the shape of US foreign policy
4. Appraise the nature and effectiveness of US foreign policy
5. Compare and contrast how US Foreign policy pre and post 9/11
