To develop an understanding of American foreign policy in the post Cold War world. To understand America's role as a commercial and economic player in world affairs and the development and operation of international regimes covering trade and related matters.

Learning Outcomes
1. Describe and explain periods in American foreign policy
2. Evaluate whether America has a foreign policy mission
3. Analyse specific theories linking domestic politics and the shape of American foreign policy
4. Appraise the nature and effectiveness of American foreign policy
5. Compare and contrast how American Foreign policy pre and post 9/11
