Description
INACTIVE - The main aim of the module is to make students aware of the most significant principles and rules of law that have a direct bearing on the international marketing function, particularly in the area of consumer protection and the protection of intellectual property.

Learning Outcomes
1. Diagnose when expert legal advice is needed in respect of contract or tort law concerrns arising out of marketing in Ireland.
2. Anticipate what sort of legal risk avoidance is necessary when marketing a product in the Irish and international context.
3. Identify the main legal principles involved in disputes involving contract, negligence, breach of copyright, and patent.
4. Appreciate the scope and limits of confidentiality agreements and the doctrines of confidentiality and privacy.
5. Obtain expert legal advice in respect of claims of passing off.
6. Understand the role and function of European Union and Irish legislation and of the courts system sufficiently well to be able to instruct solicitors and barristers.
