Description
In this class we intend to examine the interaction between economic development andforeign aid, the causes of specific allocations of bilateral, multilateral governmental andnon-governmental aid, aid conditionality, foreign aid in specific sectors, such as democracy and governance aid, disaster relief, as well as to evaluate critically the debate on theeffectiveness of aid for development, specifically looking at donor and recipient governments. This class is designed for non-economics MA students who are interested in thepolitics of development and it aims to analyze a combination of theoretical and empiricalreadings on international development and aid the world over, with the goal of uncoveringcommon patterns and answering important questions.

Learning Outcomes
1. Students with have solid foundation and exposure to the main theories and controversies in the field of international development and foreign aid
2. They will be able to critically analyze and employ in policy or academic research alike various data and indices pertaining to development.
3. Critically analyze bilateral and multilateral foreign aid
4. They will understand how to craft a good research design in the study of development.
