Description
This module equips participants with the skills to evaluate and develop appropriate online assessment and feedback approaches. This module promotes reflection on current assessment practices for academic practitioners involved in the assessment and feedback cycle. It asks educators to consider how assessment and feedback online can improve pedagogical practice. In this module participants will look at the opportunities and challenges that assessing online brings in the current context of Irish higher education. We will do this through examining current debates on e-assessment across the disciplines, looking at e-assessment possibilities within and outside the VLE.

Learning Outcomes
1. Reflect on their experience of assessment and feedback including challenges, difficulties, opportunities and requirements.
2. Critique the key assessment and feedback issues in their own disciplinary context.
3. Evaluate contemporary online assessment and feedback approaches in the light of their current teaching context and practice.
4. Design an online assessment and feedback strategy appropriate to their context and discipline.

A look at the relevant concepts when designing online assessments and feedback: authenticity, accessibility, rubrics, Open Educational Resources, and scaffolding are among concepts discussed.

Social learning in the online environment.
Focus on the concept of social learning and what role technology can play in self and peer assessment, and group work..
