Description
The purpose of this module is to introduce the students to aspects of automation as widely used in manufacturing.

Learning Outcomes
1. Analyse simple automation problems and generate the appropriate logic control.
2. Describe the operation and give the benefits of programmable logic controllers.
3. Explain where and how supervisory control and data acquisition is used in the production environment.
4. Perform a simple cost benefit analysis of automation.
5. Determine the performance of indexing and free transfer systems.
6. Describe and analyse parts transfer and feeding devices.
7. Implement statistical process control using control charts.
8. Safety considerations in automation, Impact of automation on the workforce
