This module enables students to explore how story and narrative function as ways of configuring, articulating and sharing experience. Through examining stories from a range of contexts and in various forms, students will aesthetically and critically engage with the experiences of people encountering health/social challenges. The module incorporates discussion seminars and workshops and work will be assessed by continuous assessment method

Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss how narrative psychological processes operate in configuring life experiences
2. Appreciate the various ways in which people’s stories and meanings are articulated through the lifespan and across cultures
3. Discuss the effects of sharing stories in relation to identity, truth, knowledge and power
4. Display enhanced sensitivity to the situations of people in health and social care contexts as expressed through their stories
5. Use a range of interpretative approaches when considering people’s stories of illness, disability, distress and recovery
6. Display increased awareness of possible constructions of his/her own story
