Description
This module focuses on research and its relatedness to the broad concept of health. Students will engage with the research process and will be encouraged to gain a critical appreciation of health focused research including its communication through a variety of media sources. Recent progress in health focused research and the development of contemporary research designs will be explored using the current literature.

Learning Outcomes
1. Appreciate the term “research” and its relevance to health along the life continuum
2. Discuss the societal theory and practice gap in relation to health and how research can influence this gap.
3. Understand the research process and will have become familiar with research paradigms and methodologies.
4. Critically read and discuss health related research
5. Debate the terms reliability and validity in terms of raising awareness of ‘rigour’ throughout the research process
6. Evaluate the effectiveness of research in the global health context
