This module is run through enquiry/problem based learning to develop student centered learning. Sessions are run in small tutorial groups throughout the module. Fixed resource sessions to support and underpin the students learning are also provided. Students are enabled to develop an understanding of child development; incorporating cognitive, social, emotional, physical and psychological aspects of development along the section of the life continuum from birth to 18 years. Topics related to child development such as play and education are interwoven throughout the module. Students will also be introduced to the philosophy of family centred care in relation to caring for children and their families in various health care contexts. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

1. Describe the major theories of child development related to cognitive, emotional, social, physical and psychological development and illustrate this knowledge in their module assignment 2. Show understanding of enquiry and problem based learning through classroom participation in the process 3. Discuss the importance of play and education in childhood 4. Theories of child development. Through inquiry / problem based learning the students will increase their knowledge of Psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, physical, moral and language development.. Play and education. Through enquiry / problem based learning the students will increase theit understanding of the importance of play and education for children from birth to 18 years. The students self directed learning will be scaffolded with fixed resource sessions throughout the module. Family Centred Care. Through enquiry / problem based learning and supported by fixed resource sessions the students will be introduced to the importance of the philosophy of family centred care in relation to caring for children and their families in various health care contexts.
