Description
This module will enable the student to expand their knowledge and skills of nursing practice under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings.

Learning Outcomes
1. Provide family centred nursing care to children and their families with a variety of healthcare needs in medical-surgical settings.
2. Contribute to the work of the multidisciplinary team including the dissemination of relevant information.
3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients/clients (adults/children) and their families in a variety of healthcare settings.
4. Explain the role of the nurse/midwife in providing care to patients/clients in specialist healthcare settings.
5. Apply research findings to nursing practice

Indicative Content and Learning Activities
Adult / Child Medical-Surgical Setting.
In these settings you will have time to continue to develop knowledge in nursing skills in adult / child medical-surgical settings; participate in more complex nursing skills, under the supervision of the preceptor/registered nurse; communicate effectively with adult / child patients, families and members of multi-disciplinary team..

Specialist Areas.
When you are in specialist areas in practice you will have an opportunity to develop knowledge of the specialist area; participate with the specialist nurse in the delivery of patient/client care; negotiate specific learning outcomes with the preceptor/registered nurse in specialist clinical practice area..
