Description
This module explores male and female health issues of people with intellectual disability looking at male and female health screening menopause, sexual health-education, human sexuality, assessing needs, sexually transmitted disease and contraception. The approach in the module is to develop knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of people with an intellectual disability experiencing physical illness and the care for a person with intellectual disability who is dying. The module provides an understanding of the nursing interventions that will assist the person with an intellectual disability to adapt, cope and live with an illness that requires palliative care and takes into consideration beliefs relating to bereavement and their relevance to nursing a client with an intellectual disability who is grieving. The module will teach the student skills in clinical areas on the unconscious patient, respiratory care and palliative care. Students are expected to attend all lectures, tutorials and clinical education laboratory centre work.

Learning Outcomes
1. Critically appraise factors that impact on male and female health of people with intellectual disability.
2. Analysis prevalent respiratory conditions, strategies and nursing care in the person with an intellectual disability
3. Evaluate the health care needs of the unconscious person.
4. Describe and analysis the care of a client with an intellectual disability with cancer
